oh my mercy!

Track season is starting up. One of my all time favorite summertime activities is to ride out to the track, drink beer and cheer on the racers.

I don't live near this track anymore, any track for that matter. But I'll be drinking beer and thinking of Friday night racing this summer.

why i love thirty-five millimeter

I keep thinking I should stop shooting film, stop living a luddite life and plunge into digital. But then I love film! I just got 8 rolls back from the last year. I opted for the first time to not get prints. I love these shots because the woman told me the roll had been light or heat damaged and she couldn't do anything about the color of this roll. I LIKE the color! It matches the mood of this small town so well.

Azimuth

unsurprisingly, azimuth is also the name of a band. it is also defined as:

azimuth (plural azimuths)

  1. An arc of the horizon intercepted between the meridian of the place and a vertical circle passing through the center of any object; as, the azimuth of a star; the azimuth or bearing of a line surveying.
  2. The quadrant of an azimuth circle.

Nah. We don't really need that.

May 11th: Mercury Returns to Direct Motion

last night i was introduced to World of Warcraft. myself, i didn't play, only because i opted to chat with a friend rather than learn a new strategy game. the game, similar, i think to Magic almost has its own language. it's one more example of one of the many worlds out there that i don't know about. i can see the appeal.

mercury's path is returning to direct motion today so decision making can be resumed as communication becomes clearer and choices can be made with more accurate information.

i mean, for what it's worth.

el dia de la madre

there seems to me something mildly isolating, depressing? maybe just confusing about mother's day when you're from a family that doesn't believe so much in its observance. it's lonely because everyone else is off celebrating their mothers and mine isn't home to receive my phone call. anyhow.

i'm going to make one of mom's and grandma's favorite recipes for brunch today and wait for mercury to come out of retrograde in the next couple days. i kid. kind of.

somen salad

somen noodles with some iceberg lettuce (i might use kale today) chopped into it with a delicious sauce. the salad is served cold and can be garnished with some green onions though raw green onions sometimes leave a funny taste in my mouth.

Somen Salad Sauce

1/3 cup rice vinegar
1/3 cup sugar
2 T shoyu
1t ginger juice
2t sesame oil

evidently it's such an easy meal it doesn't warrant complete sentences.

don't tell my mother that i told you that she uses angel hair pasta because it's cheaper, i like somen kind noodles.

anger yoga

i went to a yoga class this morning that made me angry. subsequent to that i went for a run that angered me even more.
coffee and cooking food provided some respite.

it's all mental. it's all in your head. mind over matter.

suck it. sometimes you just feel like being a big baby.

mercury is in retrograde.
whatever that means.
for what it's worth.

A Brokedown Melody

not long ago i dreamt that i was able to surf. i've never tried it, but it's been on my list for the better part of my twenties.

i recently asked a surfer friend if he thought that because i dreamt about it that i was able to do it. i think he was temporarily offended by my inquiry.

one day it'd be sweet to sit down and talk story with somoene like gerry lopez. he does yoga and snowboards too.

Cliff Clavin Predicts Future President Barack Obama!

i can relate to cliff claven. i feel like my head is generally full of useless facts. oh let's be honest, mostly they're not even facts.

HFS

if you read raw food or health food blogs HFS stand for Health Food Store.
I work in an HFS and I don't read HF blogs. Not much anyway. But I try to stay educated and I don't know if I believe that a young coconut dipped in formaldehyde is not going to have compromised coconut water.

I still drink coconut water.

I also think that we should be locally sustained and not living in the mountains (as the case may be at my HFS) trying to live a raw food diet.

I closed the tab on the blog that mentioned that ground spices are not truly raw food because the heat of grinding them causes them to not be raw. sigh.

whatever floats your boat, sails my ship.

as for the agave syrup debate, i have historically tended toward tequila over agave syrup for my recommended daily allowance of agave plant byproducts.

the hand clapping and zippidee doo da at the end are sheer brilliance.
